Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread! I'd welcome some pointers in here... Records that work nicely and aren't squashed to buggery, that have the needed dynamics, i.e. reference material. I know this isn't painting by numbers but some ruff values for levels etc. could help a lot of people ...

There's loads of percussive samples there like

which seems to be a rather popular drum machine in these circles.

you can always use a different kick or other percussive (shorter!)
sample like rimshot to trigger the bassline comp. that way you can make sure the bassline compressor only gets a short impulse and isn't triggered for to long a time.

Bought it yesterday. Some top sounds in there. What i think is beautiful is that there are EXTRA transient sounds etc. as well!
