The reverb rules- full stop. There are many different modes and settings, you have to really dig into it!

The trick to a futuristic sound like er, whadya call it.. mmm, valhalla is to EQ it a bit, try this combinator:

Using ableton made me lazy and stopped me from thinking about the overall flow of my music from start to finish. However, you can do some nifty things like random pattern selection. I used to swear by it until i realised that 1. its not modular in any way - you cant modulate any of the fx parameters...

Ableton is good for loop-based music - for linear editing it sucks balls, use another sequencer.

'Fake' kick drum track for live stuff, to use as the sidechain on the master compressor(s). Then, if you want to play mastered stuff, don't put the fake kick on that channel and it wont be affected. Also, send your live stuff +3db and set no gain (0db not -3/-6 whatever db) on your limiter, so live ...

I mainly use propellerhead record+reason now, and anything that it cant do i use ableton live with virtual audio cable / loopbe midi loopback synced. I choosed 'other' in sequencer since record+reason is a on a whole new level compared to just reason on its own (which i never liked) also using max4l...
