I wouldn't get the 999 for live use. It's great in the studio, but it's not exactly a fun machine to jam with since the sequencer is a bit of a bitch. Elektron gear is great for live playing however, probably the best HW sequencers ever. The sounds aren't as excellent out of the box like Jomox or so...

There's been so much mastering hype the last few years that I wouldn't be surprised if some of the so-called ME's are just snake oil salesmen in disquise, selling "professional mastering services", which in reality is just a nerd,a bedroom, a pair of Genelecs and a multi-band compressor se...

This is a great idea, there are just a few, pretty important downsides. First, you need a space that sounds good, no point in recording bad sounds, you could just as well use a cheap reverb then. Second, you need a variety of mics and preamps, so that you can get different tones and choose the combi...

Either a A&H Zed R16 or if I can't afford it yet, then an Acid Lab Bassline 2.

I read about a project like that, a system that replaces floppy disks with memory sticks. Apparently it's not an easy task because there is no standard, universal way to read and write a floppy, so someone would need to make a 950/900-specific device. There is a system that works with the MS-DOS sta...

Throw your computer out the window, and get an Akai S950, an Alesis MMT8, a Yamaha DX100, a mixing board, one multi effects processor, and a Roland vs880. This is so easy to do with hardware. It is only a bitch when you try to get the same sound in a computer. It isn't very hard to make a dubby tec...

I have a 950, using a more modern sampler is not a step up imo, the 950 just sounds so awesome. Bit reduction plugins etc just don't have the same sound, it's not even close. The only thing I would change in the 950 would be change the disk drive to an USB drive so sample storage would be a bit simp...
