Re: Legal advice on white labels

Here's an easy way to find out if you have what it takes to sell records. This is something that I observed while living in NYC. Get some gear for a live gig like a portable PA system. Set up at a location where there is pedestrian traffic. Put a tip jar. Start playing your music, it doesn't matter ...

Re: Roland AIRA TR-8 vs Roland TR-909 & TR-808 comparison de

I remember a house artist that did well telling me he only sampled an MC-303 with an MPC2000 and also used a JV1080. You can now probably find an MC-303, Akai S2000, and a JV1080 all for under $500 and still make 90s sounding house music that sells. The moral story is it's not what you have but the ...

Re: Roland AIRA TR-8 vs Roland TR-909 & TR-808 comparison de

Villalobos music could easily be software like most minimal or a sampler. Real XOX boxes are great for authentic retro music just like using any old drum machine. One thing positive I will say about Roland is the people involved in the original TR's were involved in the TR-08. It's not cheesy sample...

Re: Producing Berghain techno?

The owners need to rename the club the Haunted Mansion Stalingrad. Spooky sound effects over every track. uhh...what? Bad joke. Here's my new club. Re: Roland AIRA TR-8 vs Roland TR-909 & TR-808 comparison de

96 khz is good sound quality. Recreating the originals would no be in the $500 range. Because of the popularity of EDM and the nature of EDM the marketing isn't that deep.

Re: Legal advice on white labels

A person on the phone did say 300 was going to be the future limit. Maybe they didn't follow through. If you are having to press such a low quantity of vinyl maybe you shouldn't release records. Swallow your pride. If you are just starting out okay but it's like an aspiring actor working at Starbuck...

Re: Roland AIRA TR-8 vs Roland TR-909 & TR-808 comparison de

I'll have to check one out at the store but its all sold out. No store demos. It's hard for me to get exited over an 808/909/303. It's to the point where hearing an 808 or 909 or 303 acid sounds is not that exiting anymore.

Re: Legal advice on white labels

@ John Clees. commissioning work is a bit foreign these days but that's what I did. On Archer when I was getting quotes I was told 300 was the limit. What I would recommend is paying for at least a 1-color label, a record sleeve, a record jacket, and pressing enough vinyl so you can either break eve...
