I make all my house kicks from sine waves and a pitch envelope. I never went back to 909's since I started making them. Although it took a lot of experimenting to get the formula right. Anyways. I'll start a kick around 60, pitch it up at the beginning for the punch and layer a sampled kick over it....

Not much else I can say about these records. I don't even mix them anymore. Just put the needle in the groove and listen.

Try using a gate on your reverb too. Make massive long reverb and throw a noise gate over it for some interesting results. chain that in to another verb or a delay possibly. Endless options.
