if you want to spend quite a bit of money *THE* book to get is "The Computer Music Tutorial" by Curtis Roads.
10 years old and it's still pretty much the benchmark

using the follow actions is really useful for automating some variation... and if you drag your clips on in a vertical loop and leave space above and below it considers that a group for doing random follow actions... which can be quite good. don't see many people using the follow actions but i find ...
