Drums dont have an obvious pitch centre but using your ears you can normally make out a note albeit not an exact science.

On a side note.....I always used to love listening to Autobahn on my way to uni, something about all the synth lines on that album just made me really curious about just about everything on that walk.

Sorry Keagan but it aint bullshit, Alot of drummers tune their drums to be in thirds and fifths and things like that because then they sound better when played together. Dont exactly know what you mean by hanging off, but not being on a surface wont change the sound, in an ideal world speakers would probably levitate to avoid sound travelling via vibrations.
