Played with Kore 1 briefly. I think it's mostly aimed at live keyboard players. Basically it's an instrument rack or vst host/miser minus the sequencer. I know I'll get flamed for this. Your best bet is just to start with better source material. Invest in a good drum sample CD and some GOOD sounding VSTs: a nice synth or two, a good compressor and a good quality reverb. Trying to make poor quality sounds sound good with corrective EQ,etc is just pi...

Also try ring modulation. It can makes some really nice discordant metallic sounds.
