ARTIST Konrad Black & D. Brown
TITLE Brown & Black EP
LABEL Volt Musik
After having made his first steps with release on 240 Volt and causing a stir with last years offerings on Wagon Repair, Vancouver-based producer KONRAD BLACK returns to the Swayzak camp and joins forces with one half of the influential production team DAVID “BROON” BROWN. the resulting “bild de burg” cut is not only designed for heavy skanking but presents you the most precious gift of all: time. because how the earthy riddim is carefully carved out of the grinding, distorted noise that is not unnerving but rather soothing like waves breaking and how every additional sound is placed cautiously not only puts extra weight on details like the spooky voice loops but reinfects the mind with total serenity blurring the feel of time and space. “still” on the flip sees David Brown alone at the controls and in a more aggressive “detroit meets kingstown” mood throwing down a hard hand clapping groove underpinned with an earth-shattering bassdrum, dark, classic synth loops that get torn up by thundering, snare rolls and slowly ousted by offbeat keys before the mania voice of the mighty Upsetter Lee “Scratch” Perry leads the way. rootsical!
