how did having kids match with your music profession ?
most of us here with kids only have very young kids,
I think you're probably the only one that can talk on the subject out of years of experience.

it would have been impossible to survive on music sales alone, but i've always been involved in lots of different areas of music, engineering, promoting, running labels, sound systems, etc. when i was in my band we made money from merchandise. i also travelled alot, living in a bus, doing sound systems and cafe's and market stalls at free festivals and Glastonbury till it became all corporate and they stopped the travellers getting in. my kids grew up alternating between the city and on the road for 6 months each year, my youngest son was travelling from 3 weeks old... those kids had the time of their lives at the festivals, and travelling, it broadened their horizons and wised them up early on.

the main thing is that your kids respect you and love you for who you are when they grow up, i know alot of people who lived 'normal' lives thinking it was proper thing to do because they had kids, whose kids dont want to know them once theyve left home... the worst thing anyone can do imo is change because you have kids. as long as you love them, feed them and teach them about life, then you cant go wrong.

Why not try to do something more constructive with that time ?
That's so spot on man. I have a tv, but it's mainly for playing xbox and the occasional movie or the nightly news (which is usually muted anyways). The last thing I want to do after being at work all day is plop my azz down on the couch and watch some bullshit tv show.
Pretty contradictive. Like playing xbox is time well spent? Nothing wrong with watching telly as long as you choose what you watch. I watch the evening news and occasionally a film if there is something good on. Sometimes nature documentaries and crap like a-team is really good as hangover therapy. But I guess it's because you wouldn't be able to do anything productive in such a vegetative state anyway.

the thought of doing some random job just to survive in the city, and make music in my few hours of spare time is about as far from my reality as you can get

i've never been happier.

you dont shower ? you have gun ? and you want me to tell you why i live ? ;)

seriously though, i live in mid wales, theres no work round here, its about as far as you can get from a major city, (so no commuting) so rents have to be cheap, we live in a big 4 bedroom house standing in its own grounds, huge gardens, small river running through, and we've been paying £500 a month for the whole house including council tax, electricity, heating, water rates in fact everything except the phone bill.
