if your going intel i5 or i7 you should be good for a long time. you also want 2 hard drives for the best performs with audio. solid state or 7200rpm would be your best option. put your OS and software on one and save all your projects on the other. if you use software samplers like NI kontakt don't forget lots of RAM.

These days the hardware is getting so powerful in comparison to the needs of most music applications that just about any mid to high end desktop should be able to meet your needs. I would be more concerned with finding the cheapest solutions to your needs rather than the best. If you want to get a machine that can handle video and stuff like AVHCD then capability should a concern but for audio apps you will do just fine with most computers that rank as decent at this point as long as you get some big ass hard drives. No worries.

I guess the only big choice is between Apple, MC and Hackintosh...

PS. This is a little off topic but I read that IBM says the first 1 TB Processor is on the horizon... wow

Ok thanks guys. Is a good graphic card important for running two monitors?
I've read that a good graphic card needs a good power supply.

you dont need any graphic card, the cpu has the graphic card integrated and i think it runs two monitors just fine.

just buy a motherboard were you have 2 graphic outputs like this

http://geizhals.at/607838 (attention thats a mini-ITX board, i guess you will need a normal ATX Version)

if you want to play games, you can buy a graphic card later on.
