TR40 - Psycatron 'Directions' Out Now on Tronic

Originally set up in 1994, Christian Smith’s Tronic label holds a special place in techno circles. A leading force in shaping a less purist techno sound Tronic was amongst the first labels to embrace sounds from house and techno to create records that DJ’s from both scenes would play; and so it is with excited expectation that Tronic makes its return.

2009 has already proved to be a landmark year for Psycatron. Having been a mainstay of the techno scene in Northern Ireland for the last seven years via residencies at the legendary Shine and latterly Stiff Kitten, Psycatron’s profile is about to move to the next level with a string of high profile releases on some of the world's best respected labels.

Carl Craig’s Guilty Pleasure off shoot label, the uber-underground Simple Records and Fergie’s impressive Rekluse imprint have all hosted Psycatron productions that have gained serious attention from tastemakers such as Sasha, Carl Cox, John Digweed and Dubfire. Now Tronic are proud to unveil what we think is the biggest release of the lot.

Directions is a soon-to-be-techno-anthem. Built around an instantly memorable vocal hook this is a genuine big room tune for the summer. Pitched to a chugging groove and mounted on a low, throbbing bassline, no time is wasted in introducing the looped vocal hook that builds and drops towards a sprawling, crowd-pleaser of a breakdown.

Backing up the package is the equally impressive Tipping Point. Appearing in two versions, the 3am Front Left Speaker mix is a shimmering, bass-heavy fusion of old school techno riffs and soaring strings while the Delusions of 315 mix has a percussive, drawn out brooding vibe, twisting out the monster bassline with distorted effects.
