Critics come and go and i do not think
that respect has something to do with critics.
People like your music or people do not like your music.
It's as simple as that.

As far as you publish some of your music it goes public.
More if you drop some samples on an internet forum.
Then be sure you'll have feedbacks, be they good OR bad.
And you've got to accept all the comments.

You can make music that pleases you and happily all of us do.
And if you don't want to hear about negative reactions
keep your tracks on your hard disk and enjoy your own productions
by yourself.

What is really stupid is people sticking to one style of music
and that's why some of the electronic stuff goes boring.

Just take a look at the musical forums on the web.
mnml.nl is stuck to minimal stuff.
littledetroit to detroit techno.
cbs to italo and so called third wave 80s revival.
etc.

People are lazy.
And few are opened to evolutions and surprises.

saying one's own opinion is not like complaining
good artists should be able to cope with critics, wherever they come from (journalists, other artists, friends...)

:)
oh c'mon!

interesting conversation...

all I would add is this: never get too emotional / take anything too personnaly when something comes from the internet! everything's written, and people very often misunderstand what somebody else's saying... (see all the drama on all these other message boards where people insult eachother); words without a face and a ton of voice attached to them cannot express a thought fully!

as for what people want to express with their art... everybody feels different! I understand your point of view jesse, when you say that you do whatever you want! but I strongly feel the opposite: I'm not creating for me, I'm creating for the others... I want my music to move people (physically and/or emotionally), and I'm creating it primarily for this purpose, not as a way to express my feelings (well, of course, this is not all white or all black, and of course my feelings have a strong influence on my music, but it's not what's driving me)...

it's always cool to see how people are different :)

a friend said something interesting one time "a good musician should think he is a bad musician because this is the only way for him to get better."
