At least it isn't for me... And whole Reason idea drags me into looping - you know - Redrum patterns, Matrix - and what's the worst I can't resist it... Plus, that mixer sux bigtime...

im a cubase person, but i recomand ableton live to anyone starting to make music.
cubase is very complex and i use it since it was the only sequencer for pc back in the days when i started.
ableton gives the minimalistic sound u can hear in magda rsr etc etc
it is very friendly and easy to use, and the envalopes make the whole track no sweat.
i have difficulties to take frutty loops and reason seriouslly, the sound and the whole work is very unsetisfying :?

oh well,i could show you some amazing pieces done in reason from my friends.
like nu metal track which was done as an concept for mtv adria commercial.

it's all how you percieve it...yea,i know what you think.
Drop the idea of becoming someone else, because you are already a masterpiece.

It's nice to play with, work thru some ideas, but for arranging whole non-loop-based tracks pain in the ass... It's also limited by only it's instruments and effects... So, Cubase rewired with Reason is made-match for me...

Not to open this can of worms again, but I disagree. I do agree that for more conventional "music" though, it is better coupled with Cubase.

But to answer your question, there is no better place to start than Reason. It's a great platform to learn all sorts of aspects of production. It's been my mainstay for years and I have used it for alot of different sorts of work.
