prelistening with ableton live

Post by df »

planning to buy myself a macbook and ableton...
but i still got some questions.
i've been searching around the internet, but couldn't find an answer. i'll give it a try on my beloved forum :)

if i want to prelisten (tracks) when using live, do i need an extra soundcard or something like that to make it possible with my mac? now i'm on a regular pc with the ableton demo version, but can't find any way to do so.

thx in advance!

there is a monitor button at the bottom of the channel strip, it has a headphone on it and lights up blue. once you press it there is a volume control next to your main volume slider. you will have to have a soundcard with multiple outs if you want to hear it separate from your main mix, other wise is acts like a solo. if you have multiple outs you can set up which channel the monitor is on.

or a soundcard with a dedicated headphone out (most external cards have it)
Image we are all atomic and subatomic particles and we are all wireless...

Only thing is that a Macbook doesnt have PCMCIA slots so that wont work.
If you really want to use live with a cue function you'd better buy an external soundcard. It als gives you the best audio..
