Taken from another board...the mix is awesome but the quality i mean the way that is encoded ... they could give it to 192 kbs
Hi, this is Jeff Labelle from FAMILIES here.
The whole 96kbs limit needs a little explanation.
Because we always wanted to be fully legal on those FAMILIESdownload releases, we need to get the authorisation from all the labels that feature on the mixes.
Most of those labels are underground, relying on vinyl sales in order to carry on releasing quality music so they have little interested to give away their rights for free on a free download.
So the agreement we managed to get from the labels is to get their authorisation to licence their tracks for free in exchange of an adverage encoding quality.
So those mixes are ok for a home or car or pod listening but does not support to be played out on a big rig, dj style.
This way, the vinyl sales are not harmed.
Hope this helps you to understand why all the FAMILIESdownload mixes are encoded on 96kbs.
Thanks for the support anyway,
Jeff Labelle
