Hit a chord, like D mineur_ D. F. A. _ 2# or 3# Octave.

Then tweak around. Whit the synth. I accept your not verry known whit synths. Mybe a good synth to start whit is a simple one , like Juno 6 or a Polysix. So you can learn and understand the basic parameters of a synth.
Soon enough you will learn how to knead whit sound. If you dont have the money for it, the free plugs are a good solution.
