play with your pattern sequencer and make small notes

long drawn out melodies.....its hard not to sound progressive

each time I try to avoid pad or melodies like these but at the end I find out I've used them!I just cant control myself.

and by the way what do you mean "play with your pattern sequencer"
I mean what kind of play you suggest?

Theres several things you could so really. You could start off with just one or two notes then every say 8/16 bars or whatever number add a note then progress with that.

You could also start off with a melody with say 5 notes and change one of the notes each time so the melody sounds a bit different or then at other points add one like the previous idea.

You could also keep the same short melody but add fx to it, could be distorted one section then have delay effects the next. This idea depends more on the sound you have from past experience.
