Playing live without a laptop

I'm thinking of slinging the laptop entirely for live work and instead going completely hardware. (keeping software for studio though)

What do people think of the Korg ESX1 SD (the new one with SD card sample storage) for jamming with pre rendered loops and patterns? Ill likely be using it in conjunction with an Elektron monomachine which will be doing bass & synth lines.

This guy Garo from Chicago does a live PA on a single EMX1 and is a bad ass on it.

The octatrack would probably be sicker though combined with the Monomachine... you could make a tighter sound with those i think. especially because you could get your stuff sounding pretty good in the box and bounce to the octatrack for live use.

I wont be using just loops Ill be triggering single hits and also mashing them up with FX.

I think I'll wait at least a year or two before I look at an Elektron octatrack, from what Im reading so far on their forum the sampling and looping is a pain in the arse so far. Im going to let it develop to at least v1.0 before I seriously look at one.
