a friend of mine, well known dj as well, once did ringtones for a company and also a collab. with a pop star...i don't see anything bad in it, actually i find it challenging....
as someone said before, i've done many part time job i had no interest in just for the money, so i rather do pop/commercial music just for that purpose....
and it might be really satisfying in the future ending up producing an album for some popstar...no?

I would if I could. But I don't have the skills. Any way you cut it, the level of producing on many pop tracks are a lot higher standard then many of the 'underground' tracks we all love and dance to.

exactly!you can realize that just by spending some minute on gearslutz, and that's why it could be very nice indeed being able to produce music at such standards...maybe in the end i'll never be able to reach that but for now i wouldn't limit myself because is music i don't like, you know one thing led to another....

So right.
These two tracks come to my mind:
Shakira-Waka Waka
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpeEdMmmQ0
(While it really has been played to death on radio here I still think the sound quality, the composition and the song as a whole is really great)

Massive Attack-Angel

(Absolutely stunning, so clean yet dirty)

WACK!

Pop music is very complex and clever in the way that its catchy too, but would you think that something big in the charts like Swedish House Mafia - One, fits in that catagory aswell ?

I would also do it. After all you made the track so something in you must have decided already for you.

Everyone knows that make a living with producing underground tunes is very hard. So if you have the skills why not make tunes that might sell so you can make more underground tunes instead of spending your time working at Ikea or McDonalds to get some money.

Just don't listen to the "real underground people" saying that you can't do it because then you will loose credibility or whatever.
