Would like to try my hand at it but haven't got the first idea where to start

Any tips for good software packages?

Max/msp seems to be the ultimate choice in vjing, however there are other programs like processing and such that can do the trick.

Jitter in Max/Msp is the ultimate in flexibility and one of the biggest platforms that exists out there. Tons of user support and user supported objects. VDMX the old version, 1 or 2, was really f*ing cool, but then in vr. 3 or something it became production oriented rather then live oriented, though looking at it now, it might have switched back. Hope you have fun!
