Ableton Live Demo Song Contest

Post by jpls »

I came across this earlier today...after reviewing the "rules", I thought
some of you fellow minimal producers(and live users) might find this interesting.

- Text below copied from http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19671

*********************************************

Dear Registered Ableton Live users,

You are invited to participate in the first ever demo song contest for the next major upgrade to Live. The top two Demo Songs in two different categories will win both bragging rights and a fresh new copy of the next version of Live.

Details are as follows:
-Every registered Live User can participate in both contests with up to two songs each.
-The "Hard" category requires the composer to follow strict rules as described below.
-The "Free" category has far less restrictions where even Operator can be used.

Prizes?
The winners will get a free upgrade of the next major release of Live. Also, Ableton will publish the winning songs along with your name and production notes in Live Set format, via the Ableton web site and/or with future software versions.

Contest rules

- Sorry, but participants must not be a member of GEMA, ASCAP, BMI, or similar publishing agencies because of the difficult legal issues involved.
- No copyrighted material can be used to compose the song. For instance, you can not use samples from third party libraries.
- No cover songs or references to copyrighted material can be used. This includes recreated melodies or remixes as well.
- Winners will have to sign a contract that gives Ableton the non-exclusive right to distribute the song and that you followed the above rules.
- Submitted songs must be smaller than 10 MB in total size.
- Song can only use double the CPU usage of the demo song in Live 4 on your machine.
- No VST/Audio Units/ReWire or tracks with external MIDI are allowed in final version.
- Song must be delivered as a self-contained file.

If you choose to participate the "Hard" category you have to follow the following rules in addition:

- Song can use a maximum of One Return track.
- Song can use a maximum of One Ableton MIDI Effect.
- Song can use a maximum of One Ableton Audio Effect.
- Song can use a maximum of Two MIDI Tracks.
- Song can use a maximum of Four Audio Tracks.
- Operator can not be used in final song.
- Song should not have more than four scenes in the Session View.
- Song can have a maximum of two Clip Envelopes in total.
- No follow actions are allowed

Production Notes Required!

Please add production notes to your contribution in a plain text file. We want to learn how you created the song technically and artistically. This is an elemental part of the competition and will be reviewed accordingly.

How to participate?

All contributions have to be a self contained song packed into a zip archive. The archive should include a text file with your real name, your address, your phone number, your email, your live serial and in which category the song should participate. You can add the production note in this text file or add an additional file for that. Please upload one zip file for each song.

You have to upload the song till June 1st, 2005 on the Ableton ftp server. We will publish upload details at this place very soon. Stay tuned.

How to win?
The contributions will be judged by the Ableton team for originality, composition, sound quality, rule appliance and the production note. The names of the winners will be published some time after the deadline at this place.

We are looking forward for your contribution and wish you much luck in the competition,

The Ableton Team.
