ableton compatibility issues

Post by steevio »

i've just tried to open an .als file in ableton and it says that its incompatible and was recorded on a newer version of Live.
i'm using Live 7.

is it possible to convert the file so as to be compatible ?. (not sure which version it was recorded on but i can find out.)

i dont really want to upgrade, because i hardly use Live, but this is an important jam i did with some other guys, and i need to work on it.

no you cant :(

ableton works only backwards.

what kind of project you have? Midi or Audio? Do you have access to a computer with a higher version?

you can proceed like this:

if you have audio, import the asd files and load the waves in your 7 Version. Rebuilt the FX and try tio rebuild the midi patterns.

if you have mainly midi parts, you can only export it with the higher version and make screenshots to rebuild the session.

in the higher version you can activate a collect them all procedure, in that case all files are used inside the project are saved in the project directory, .asd files too, you can export midi clips or scenes (i dont know exactly at the moment) as midi files.

or record audio files from the tracks and just arrange them and your new sounds.

i think you must do a combination of these procedures. the rest is illegaly.
