Hello everybody. Im trying for days to identify that kind of acid-like sound you can hear on these tracks. Very classic type of sound:

Does anyone know how to achieve that sound?

Thank you!

sounds like some sort of FM style sound drenched in reverb.

I would recommend a DX7 for this type of thing.
but if you are in ableton i googled some tutorials for you to get started on operator.

Yes it's Fm synthesis but you don't need a DX7 to make that sound, you could also do it with Phase Distortion PD synthesis - like the CZ series but in software, something like Fm8 or if you have Ableton, Operator can make it easy too. Any FM capable synth basically, also NI Massive and possible other wavetable synths, probably loads of things so worth saying what you use co's different synths might go about that sound in different ways.

A very basic starting point with Operator from the default sine patch would be to have osc A's coarse setting on 1, activate osc B and set it to 2, use the default configuration for the routing and then set the envelope for osc A, gradually increase the volume of osc B and you'll hear the sound get brighter as you go and you'll hear the sound you are after start coming through.

No idea what you use though so I haven't gone into any detail here but it will work on any FM synth, there's a lot more you can do after this though.

[EDIT] Just realised hydrogen posted youtube links above, didn't see those initially.

NO worries bro, my post was definitely biased against using the actual dx7 :)... Have you tried oli larkins virtual CZ synth? it is pretty amazing. http://www.olilarkin.co.uk/index.php?p=virtualcz

Yes I have it and go to it quite often. I'm fond of it for chords, there's a sound to it that I find lies somewhere between an Alpha Juno/Poly 800/DX'ish that I really like. You can get some 'Detroit' style deep chords going on with those envelopes esp on pitch. I also have the Alpha Juno 'Redominator' plugin but for stuff like the above, Virtual CZ hits the spot for me.

That is a baller VST. Well worth the investment on it. This one is always in my default rack, sounds brilliant and so easy to program compared to the actual thing.
