I liked it so much I bought a second one many many years ago and I still rock them like no other. As @AK said, edit your samples in an audio editor. You'll need a Smart media card and a USB to Smart media convertor, which should be able to find one on amazon. The time slice function allows you to load entire drum and sample kits into single sample parts. Its really nice for improv/on the spot/live use. Those tubes can get hot though during extended use and if they blow, you're in trouble so watch volume levels.
@Magpie I also had an XL7 years ago and it was such great piece. It was soooooo nice. Mine crashed on me though. They're incredibly hard to find now. : (
