Linking slim phatty up to current set up...

I've decided to purchase my first piece of hardware, mainly because I'm bored staring at a screen and also to have a play with something different.

I'm just wondering what cables and signal flow i need to link everything I currently have together.

I need to work in my audio interface (focusrite saffire pro 14), midi keyboard, and laptop all together.

Sorry for the beginners question but I guess everyone has to start somewhere!

the phatty should show up as a USB midi device, so you shouldn't need midi cables. But u will need to select the Slim Phatty on the output of your midi track.

Hello Imposter,

To break it down into beginner's speak like you asked, you will need 1, 1/4" audio cable (same as a guitar lead) to go from your Slim Phatty and into your sound card. As Lem said, you won't need a Midi cable as the Usb port will do this job.
The best way to set it up will be taking the Midi from your Midi keyboard, into your DAW then from your DAW to the Slim Phatty which will then play audio that you then route into an audio channel in your DAW.
You may need to adjust some of the timing on your DAW's Midi menu to adjust for latency but you can cross that bridge when you come to it.

Another thing I notice is that the Slim Phatty can also process external audio so if you buy an extra audio cable to run from your sound card into the Slim Phatty, you will be able to send other audio samples from your DAW into it and use it as an effect, mainly the filter.

1/4" from phatty to soundcard, im guessing it goes in the bottom left "in", since my speakers use the line in.

monitoring through DAW will always have the latency. so instead of changing the latency you could just use the monitor out from the soundcard and not the DAW so you hear the direct signal of the slim phatty.

You should use the line ins. Your speakers are linked to the Outs right?

You can use one of the inputs on the front of the Focusrite.
