just export the same stems out of both and you will hear a difference

there are to many bells and whistle and not enough substance
not looking at differentplugins, but only looking at importing the same audio parts in 2 different DAW's and exporting them afterwards :

http://tarekith.com/sound-quality-live-versus-logic/

and that seems like a thorough test to me.

Is this getting a little OT?
Maybe they have tried improving the audio engine, but it comes at a trade off of lantency/cpu drain or something.

look i love ableton its the centre on my studio and a lot of peoples. But to get a really nice mixdown with more openness you really need to use pt or cubase

i would like to see this test down for 4 or 5 daws
according to this test, the results with Live are identical to Logic,
the guy even phase reversed the results and had complete cancellation.

yes, this is only Live versus Logic, but funny enough people are regularly complaining about the sound quality of Live,
and not really about Logic.

I'm not having a go at you Michael, I'm just saying I think there's a lot of myth about this issue.
Maybe in the really old versions of Live the sound wasn't the best, but I don't think there's a lot of difference anymore.
And if a test like this shows the results with Logic and Live are the same, then I can't imagine the differences with something like Cubase and PT are that big anymore.

just my 2 cts, I didn't do any of these tests myself (I gave up working with cubase many years ago), but I do think they look rather reliable.

like the new things in 9 look cool, like the automation curves but not sure its worth the price tag
Better sound quality is always a good thing. But like I said before, it might come at a price.

I have heard people slating Logic's audio engine...
I just take it all with a pinch of salt. I have never been in a situation where I have thought, ohh i really wish Live/Logic etc.. sounded better. I always think, I need to get better to make this sound better. So I blame myself rather than the software.
The first thing I noticed when I got Logic was how good the native plugins sounded.

I do agree that there arn't enough features to justify me upgrading.

workstations sounding different has nothing to do with summing audio. summing two audio streams is 2 lines of code max

there are many other factors that play into what the end product sounds like.

if you're capable of understanding this, it should put the issue to rest
