totally.
its a constant battle for me to find those unusual intervals, i've found that quite often they turn out to be harmonic.
the harmonic series sounds weird to our western ears, but you only have to play around with it for a while to acclimatise to it.

its a big thing for me right now because i'm try to set up an unusual interval basis for my analogue sequencing, and i'm constantly analysing the effects different intervals have on my music.

so it seems that part of what is going on are the chords being spaced out over multiple octaves instead of the same octave like a player would do by hand. it makes alot of sense. if you played a simple patch on a synth, unless it's just a sine most sounds are going to have a wide range of frequencies so spreading the chords out over a few octaves is going to sound way more full and open and clean. i can hear it in now right away in their disco gnome track, it's a minor chord with each successive note on a different octave. i guess this is why sequencers took over actually playing by hand, for electronic music at least

also, im not into swedish house mafia but they are doing the same thing only using different patches for each note of the overall chord

never thought of that. it's interesting to say the least. Use a different patch/treatment for each note.

you can get a really rich dense sound that way, i do it with different modules for each note in the chord.

Are you keeping it mono when doing this?

mono as opposed to stereo or poly ?

pressumably you mean poly. i use a mixture, like a mono synth patch with extra notes coming from other sequences
