i was at a festival a little while ago and I saw shitloads of people buying vinyl at the merchandise area.

i think dance music has definitely suffered, with the rise in mp3 culture.

But I think there are people who still believe in plastic.

personally i'm not sure what to do about vinyl. i'm a strong believer in analogue technolgy... it's layered and has multiple points of consciousness... computers can only see one bit at a time. Record stores are wonderful little islands and a point of contact and community. 74 minutes is quite a long time for a cd... having to turn the side and either jump straight in, or go make a cup of tea. That's pretty charming.

At least I contributed a little. Started buying vinyl since last year and already have quite a few records :)

maybe being the devil's advocate a bit here, but isn't the "rise" simplest to do after a major fallback in 2009? I mean, it's like with car sales: have gone up 10% last year! But they forget they lost 20% the year before, so in absolute numbers it might be not so much of a difference from the previous periods.

Still, I'm all for it, starting to buy vinyl again too actually. Mostly stuff you can't find digitally, and that's quite a big chunk even in 2011 :)
