The key thing is to use the right effects over the tb303, as the 303 sounds better with for example some chorus or reverb over it.
I always use the internal fx frrom my studio mixer, and/or the fx from a Korg guitar pedal, to change the sound of the 303 (but you can use any effect you like of course).

As you can hear on Richie's latest album (Closer), he uses a huge amount of FX to really change the sound...

It is also important to understand how to get te best out of it's sequencer, as I sometimes still find it difficult to program...

I picked up Rebirth. One a few years ago for really cheap, it's a stripped down version of Rebirth by Propellerheads. It comes with two 303 emulators and a very cheap sounding drum kit. If you can find it somewhere then buy it (I bought it for like € 2,50 maybe?) cos the emu has roughly the same look and interface as the real 303 has, and it's very fun to play with :)

I'm thinking about having mine modified as well...
Did you already receive yours back?
If so, how much does it cost at the moment to send one to Australia and have it modified?

(I know that he only modifies existing 303's).

that devilfish mod sounds nice, especially since it has an audio in to filter, which means you can use the 303's filter on other sounds, right? :D

I'm thinking about modding my Korg Poly-800. It's a cheap synth so if I fck anything up it's not a very big deal. And besides, it's going to be a simple filter mod. Right now on the poly 800 I need to adjust everything with an annoying digital interface instead of knobs and sliders. I can easily build knobs for filter cutoff and resonance in it, and it even makes the filter sound better!
