hehe polyrhytmes are basis of african percussions... that makes the "trance" possible, cause one side of the music stick your feet on the ground, and the other side talk directly to your brain, turning and turning around

Robot criminal, your (great) track shows a polyrhytm focused on one basic 4/4 frame, mains that the beat turns inside the 4/4 only. Traditional stuff from many cultures tend to go further into construction, so sometimes, you cannot hear to "contact" point between the 2 parts as the first step of your 4/4> cf indian music, central africa percussions.....

anyway, very interresting topic

would it be possible that artists like aphex, boards of even autechre use polyrhythms in their pieces? as far as i understood, it's a rhythm that has several variations under a main one. meaning, like 3 changing rhythmic patterns that form an unique one.

yeah i do this all the time. i didn't know it had a name! i love the sound that it creates. i have heard it used in more than a couple of my records as well.

actually... as i continue reading it says "that they both take the same amount of time"... that makes me think that i am not talking about polyrhythms. what i am talking about is putting a 3 beat pattern over a 4 beat pattern. 4 beats for the kick and snare. then the 3 beat pattern will be some hats. both the same bpm so the 4 beat pattern is obviously longer and the 3 beat pattern loops faster. is this a polyrhythm or not?

yeah, i do this a lot.

having a kick that runs 8 bars with hats/percussion that runs 3 bars and a synth line that runs 6 bars.

don't know if that is polyrhythm. :?
