Timothy Dalton lives deep in the mountains where he frets over the impending apocalypse. He also happens to craft awe-inspiring music that incorporates ambient, downtempo and techno. His only solace from anxiety and the harsh realities of rural mountain life are a ramshackle computer and bootlegged music production software. His debut release, Modern Thrift, reflects the rumblings of his psyche; uneasy techno awash with dark ethereal textures.

Don’t lose your head amongst the Atmosphere. Shuffling percussive elements lay the groundwork for a cavernous synth construct that keeps you high above the Appalachians. Just don’t look down.

In Dreamlands, the tension sweeps in from the onset. A forlorn guitar loop strums whilst staccato drums puncture the aural landscape. If you feel the need to do what the Gregorian-esque chanting tells you, remember there is no safe word.

The title track, Modern Thrift, rumbles to life with chatter and static from beyond this galaxy. Once things get kicked into overdrive it goes from mind bender to ass shaker. What was that?

Stirsound label chief Ian Funk propels the track into a Controlled Chaos with his remix of Modern Thrift. Driving drums and a relentless lead synth send you scrambling back to civilization.
