The Martinez Brothers

Post by maxismall »

Two latino kids from NYC, proteges of Dennis Ferrer (they did their first EP on his Objektivity label last year)
They are only 16 and 19 as i write this!
Very glamorous looking latino kids with diamond earrings etc etc i reckon they will soon be superstars if the minimal/techno scene discovers them.

They were introduced to club and house culture by their father who was an ex-hardcore clubber during the garage heydays in NYC and stopped everything in '87 to meet God...very american story ;) Still he kept his love for house and encouraged his kids to get into it in the early 00's...and now he's travelling with them everywhere.

I've seen them in Paris last week-end, they have the same positive attitude behind the deacks as people like Raresh with a cross of NYC house/disco culture and that latino vibe...actually the funny thing is that they cite Ricardo Villalobos as one of their main influences where most of the people on their scene (ie NYC/New Jersey deep) don't even know who he is! Very open-minded kids.
They are uncredible DJs, working on 4 CD decks with FX, acapellas etc at the same time very technical, with a smiling party vibe and a very techno energy.
They played a unique blend of percussive deep-house and deep techno, and apparently are working on more new tracks...

Watch out for these kids!

Unfortunately not now but i'll try to find out.
I heard there are some very garage/house orientated sets from them online but what they did on sat was deffo more techy, sounds like they can cover a very wide range of styles.

Here's a few videos i found (forget the Defected tv logo  ) =
