Gas

Post by LetsGoOutside »

for those who don't know, gas is wolfgang voigt. under this moniker, he produces incredibly beautiful, repetive, and dream-like minimal techno and ambient. and when i say "dream-like", i don't mean that in the sense of butterflies bouncing off rainbows on fire. i mean that sounds are somewhat undefined, unplaceable. listening to gas is like trying to remember a dream or nightmare that you had as a child.

he's got five releases on mille plateaux...

gas (cd/3lp)
pop (cd/2lp)
zauberberg (cd/2lp)
königsforst (cd/2lp)
oktember (12")

...and one on profan...

modern (12")

all releases came out between 1995 and 2000. i doubt we'll see any new ones under this name. the voigt brothers have a tendency to do some very limited releases (remember kreisel 99?), so hunting down physical copies of all the gas projects can be a challenge, but the cds should be too tough to find out there. i had them all (in all formats) in 2001, but just have the mp3s now after "the great digitization". if you get desperate for vinyl, it shows up on gemm from time to time (usually at a hefty cost).

yup
i have two lps
just love those one-chord ambient tracks
it's funny how one chord can actually make up one track

One of my favorite all time projects! So beautiful and deep.

I've heard that the vinyl versions had somewhat different tracks than the CD versions. Can anyone confirm? I've only the CDs of those albums and have never seen the 12"s around.
