The difference between artists that make it and artist that don't are ones that have the "balls" to use everything at their disposal... including guerilla marketing tactics.. The rest are either satisfied with playing for friends and their local club scene or end up bitter and spend half a lifetime either whining or making music and then giving up.
Exactly. What the electronic music industry is missing is people who know the business side of it all. It's a necessary part of music if one wants to live off of it.

Regarding the "top 40" question... I totally disagree. Here's my reasoning:

Actual "top 40" artists represent something totally different. They too have lots of hard work to do to get where they are and keep on top of their game, but I really think people like Hawtin have worked very the better part of their lives, really pushing and striving to achieve the things they've wanted to achieve. Most of the names you've mentioned are very forward thinking individuals who have became successful because of their skills, excellent music and notoriety that comes with being involved with the scene at so many different levels. None of these qualities are found in a "top 40" artist. Also, some of these guys have just plain been around and involved longer than anyone else and so naturally they have become successful over time (see "adam's law" in my other post :) - the only thing between yourself and a goal is hard work and time)

..
Thanks for all your answers.

I do not refer to the usual top 40 everybody knows.
Only thing that was an eyecatsher for me is the following thing:

In my search for new vinyl.
Looking at sites like Nuloop,web-records,deckrecords,musichead...etc. You got a TOP 10...20...etc
And I only found the same names popping-up at every site, with the same releases. So in a way or another it's a TOP 40
Also the same thing in the sections "Users who bought this item often bought these tunes as well:

So I was wondering if some people on this site got some new and refreshing names for me, that I could look up on the internet.

Don't get me wrong as I said before in another post.
The mentioned names are great producers and I got releases from al of them. They are great and stay great, because indeed they are dedicated to what they do. Where I am looking always the same names are mentioned, so that's also why I was talking about "" top 40""
Because I am also interested in new names and upcoming artists but could not find them so easily.
So, wondering if anybody could help me out with it.

Some already did, shout out to them!!
