I think what JPLS is saying is that we should all sell our TR-909s and get the new and improved MC-909s instead. Is that correct? It's new technology, so it must be better, right?

Why should he, or anyone else have to embrace technology? I read an interview where Richie Hawtin said that both he and Jeff Mills were given early versions of Final Scratch when they were developing it. I would have to imagine he at least attempted to test it out to see if it suited him and apparently it didn't. I don't think latching on to every new bit and bob that comes out is necessarily going to make someone a better DJ. I think pushing in new directions as often as possible is far more important. Jeff has moved forward with new ideas each and every year. Be it three decks, be it adding the 909 to his set up, be it playing live with an orchestra. The man is still breaking new ground after all this time, that's what matters. Respect.

Richie wouldn't sound the same today if it wasn't for Jeff.

I'm going to look on the Akufen topic to see if everyones talking about how un-minimal he is. Because jeff is a lot more minimalistic that Akufen.

Few words to describe the power of Jeff...

He's a Simply Dj...he don't use any kind of Software or laptop to create your wonderful style...I would call "3 Decks" Man.. :) & he's one of the dj that imprint the techno scene with his class...

Every person that met Him they should only glad... :)

answer was that Jeff's alias in the 80s was "The Wizard"... me and my gf got to
see Jeff performing for the John Peel sessions at Maida Vale in London, when
John was still alive. About 20 ppl in the studio, John was bringing the beers
and total craziness was floating all over... James Ruskin was also there as
another fan of Jeff... the show was aired live, and we got to see an extra 15 mins
exclusive madness while he dropped some early UR vinyls. i have to say that Jeff
is one of the most modest, shy & friendly persons around.
it's still and will remain an unforgettable experience for me :)
I had that mix on play many times.. .Was that the one where he spontaneously dropped a James Brown track? This was one of the best Mills mix i ever heard. You are a lucky man to have been there.

Mills is not only an amazing DJ but he was *way* ahead of everyone else in the early 90's when it came to producing Techno. I don't think a lot of people could touch what he was doing back then.
