Plastikman (Hawtin)

Post by jpls »

I am somewhat suprised to see no listing for Hawtin on this board.
I'll spare the pasted bio as I am sure everyone here knows already.
If not, http://www.m-nus.com has all the info you need.

Instead, I would like to know what releases you enjoy the most.

Even though I thought the Nostalgik tracks were absolutely great,
they still don't beat out Digital/Divide or the Concept96 series.
Then again, I do think Consumed is a masterpiece.

One attribute he has that sets him apart is his sounds. Does anyone
else notice a 'fullness' that only hawtin's tracks posess? I am not sure
how he does this, but it is a reason why I have always been interested
in his production. What really confuses me is when I think about an
article I read which stated he used Pro Tools for the production of
Closer. I have never had Pro Tools sounding as good as that
album(even though I know many who swear it is there least favorite...
nonetheless I think it sounds spectacular).

Either way, I see Plastikman as a viable addition to the list of artists
on this board.

DE:9 - Closer to the edit is still the single best mix CD I ever heard. The mixing, the vibe, and even the concept of the CD are just so high quality. Am not actually a huge fan of the Plastikman tracks to be honest, but I would always rate Hawtin as one of the best DJ's I've ever heard, and he is in fact the DJ who got me into minimal techno in the first place.

Total respect.

i prefer him as plastikman, but only until artifakts [bc],because the new album is such a piece of crap, that it ruined my vision of plastikman.
i grew up with this man,so it's a big influence to me...
Drop the idea of becoming someone else, because you are already a masterpiece.

I don't know about Closer being crap...it's just different from what he has done previously.

I totally agree.

Artifakts is my favorite album from Plastikman, although the Kontakt Mini CD is my most prized ;)

And for the record, I like Closer.
