Red Kite wrote:Well I saw Rob Hood playing at Tresor once and it was awesome. I think many Detroit DJs mix a lot faster and more agressive than DJs around here, so the beat-matching doesn't seem to be perfectly flawless, but at the same time there is a lot more energy and movement in the sets.

In the end it all comes to taste, but at least I never got bored to death by a DJ from Detroit, which happens with about 90% of the DJ sets I hear in Berlin.

Well of course not everything is golden in Detroit, I'm not that naive, that's just the basic induction from my experiences so far.

there is a lot of truth in the statement about mixing faster, throughout the waves of generations coming through the scene in detroit it seems real common for djs to mix incredibly short parts of songs, in a fast and sometimes even slightly sloppy manner. I have seen hood go through 4 vinyl in 4 minutes or less.

its just a different approach, i notice out on the westcoast its longer and more drawn out, same with what i felt a lot of the time in berlin...

Rob Hood is great, he's got such an understated "energy" to what he does.

One of my favorites...
