tokyo tips

Post by apanell »

dear friends,

i've just settled in tokyo and will be here for at least a year or two. i'm based in bunkyo-ku for the moment.

it would be lovely to know any tips from you experienced travelers;
regarding anything, lifestyle, survival, etc. - not only the electronic music.

i already compiled the following clubs & cafes, through my research or from others recommendations.

(01) http://www.womb.co.jp
(02) http://www.liquidroom.net
(03) http://www.air-tokyo.com
(04) http://origamientertainment.jp
(05) http://www.nakameguro-solfa.com
(06) http://www.unit-tokyo.com/
(07) http://www.technique.co.jp
(08) http://bar-orbit.com/
(09) http://www.dommune.com/about/en/
(10) http://www.timeoutcafe.jp/
(11) http://www.jazzysport.com/
(12) https://www.super-deluxe.com/

i hope my request isn't too broad and i look forward to the advice of my fellow mnml-ers.

i think you have found good starting points. i would ask there some locals to find more obscure locations.

I'm living in Tokyo for five months now and have encountered so many fine places and people already.
Womb, air, Liquidroom and Unit are the biggest clubs I guess. I would only recommend Unit though. I don't know. I just think it has the best atmosphere and sound system. So for me it is the only club worth the expensive entrance fee.
There are of course some other smaller venues worth checking out. Especially because the entrance is much cheaper or even free. Oath is a bar/club which often hosts after hours for those who can't get enough. I lived in Berlin for quite some time and Oath gave me some nostalgic feelings about it. It is fun, but I don't always enjoy the music there.
Bonobo Bar varies a lot in music (both quality and style), but the nights I had there were always very funny. Very easy to meet new people. I had the feeling everybody is going there just to have fun.
Click in Ikejiri is a very small club of friends of mine. I will also host a tuesday party with some guys, beginning in March or April.
In Chiba there is Mui/Soundbar Mui and in Yokohama a club called Galaxy. They are both connected to the guys I know, but I haven't checked them out yet.
I sent you a private message. Maybe you wanna hang out some time or go record shopping. Till then, enjoy Tokyo!
