Re: DINAMUZAC CONTEST - WIN A VINYL COPY OF THE NEXT DINAMOE

Alright everybody: THE CONTEST IS CLOSED! The winners have already been contacted via e-mail. Thanks for your participation and patience regarding the results of this contest!

Let me share the answer with all of you: The basic/main key of "Dinamuzac Manifesto" is B minor - sorry, it's not D major (as some of you thought), although there's a harmonic connection. Let me try to explain this to you as compact and trenchant as possible. It's useful to take a look at the score:

The accidentals imply D major or B minor - unfortunately, they do not deliver any clear answer. When the harmonic background kicks in, B minor has a strong presence that never really leaves. It gets confirmed pretty early with the appearance of its dominant F sharp major and it also marks the harmonic ending of the piece.
Of course, there are harmonies that seem to be oriented towards the alleged tonic D major which appears after a short time but which has to be interpreted as (major) tonic parallel of B minor. Two times, D major is followed by its subdominant and dominant - something pretty "typical" and regular, but the step from subdominant to dominant gets briefly interrupted by E minor (the subdominant of B minor [as tonic]) which strengthens the presence of B minor as basic key and weakens the dominant impact of D major's subdominant-dominant movement. Finally, this movement leads back to B minor twice - so, this is just a brief harmonic D major layer that leads back to its minor tonic parallel (deceptive cadence), but B minor still is the basic key either way.
"Dinamuzac Manifesto" seems to be a simple composition and it is - in an outward kind of way. But there's another level of inner construction to it that falls between the cracks and plays with harmonic, melodic and rhythmic ambiguity - it strikes a balance. There's a reason to its role as tonal manifesto and audio trademark of Dinamuzac.
Besides, "Dinamuzac Manifesto" is available on Beatport (http://www.beatport.com/track/dinamuzac ... ix/3700592) and their "automatic detection" is absolutely right regarding B minor as its basic key, but please - don't count on it any day of the week. By the way - it has always been absolutely legitimate to find the basic key there - if you did so: clever idea!
