i would hazard a guess that vienna is also a much nicer place to live than london :/

You can get a room in a shared place in an OK neighbourhood in Zone 2 for around £500, or a bit less if you're lucky. Moveflat, Gumtree, Flatshare, most of them have been mentioned already... some of them make you pay to sign up if you actually want to be able to communicate with people posting adverts which is a bit shady. Also you need to act fast if you find something you're interested in, it's absolutely cutthroat. I say Zone 2 because it seems like the best compromise between price and central-ness.

£500pm is still a pretty ridiculous price to pay for a room IMO, you can get an entire 1 or 2 bed flat in most places in the UK for that, but that's cheap by London standards.

Which areas are you considering? There's plenty places in Zone 2 worth living in so it just comes down to what's convenient for your work, socialising, lifestyle, etc really.

I live in Stockwell - virtually zero going on here but its well connected by northern and victoria lines. Also its near work (a long walk or short bus journey)
