I'd try putting it in the freezer to get rid of the big bits of wax and then use alcohol / Isopropanol to clean the grooves.
olive oil might do the job as well.
An oki noki or a disco-antistat would come in handy if you own one.
I've read about the use of a hair dryer and blotting paper as well.
Just be careful with that

Brilliant thank you.
Managed to get enough off to render them playable but a clean cloth dipped in a tiny bit of hot water. I dabbed the record then promptly wiped with a dry cloth before the record could get too warm.
This got the majority of the wax off but there is still a small but unproblematic amount.
Will get some lighter fuel to finish the job soon!
