Its a comprehensive place and only a one year course. I know a couple of guys who went there.

If you're very devoted, yuo can go places through this place.

schools

Post by johnathon doe »

I have thought about going to this school:

http://www.harrisinstitute.com/

1 years course....fully devoted to learning the business and technical end of music production. It's in Toronto. It's expensive. They don't reccomend part-time jobs etc while going...and Toronto is expensive to live in. But, if your parents have you covered then I would say here.

Other schools will tack on stuff you don't want and waste your time.

peace

I almost went to OIART. I dedicated my time to actually producing and things instead and it's working out well for me. I toured OIART and everything though, solid program.

There is also Fanshaw College's "MIA" - Music Industry Arts program.. might be worth looking into if you're looking for a broader understanding of the music industry in the studio and out. They've got some nice studio facilities there and I've been in one of the studios a couple of times.

OIART I think is more money but supposedly "world renowned" and I can see why it's more money... the facilities are great and it technically a private school.

Fanshaw MIA is well known and is probably harder to get into. i went to an info session about it where they said that they had to shut it off to canadian residents only and they still had thousands and thousands of applications from all over the country, and that it was possibly the hardest program to get into.

personalyl i went to the Trebas institute.. and i in no way indorse this program, it's a piece of sh!t... out of my enite class of 80 people, two of us have jobs now, myself, and a good friend of mine, i now own a recording studio, and he works at "the" studio in toronto right now, which is orange records, none of the programs are what they're cracked up to be, i've heard good things abotu oiart tho.. so do some digging with that....
