all you need is logic software wise, dont concern yourself with the plethora of 3rd party developers (some of which are very good) until you can use all of logics instruments.

Its all about tuning. Transient is a secondary thing. Tuning is def important, but just one part of the overall picture. I think pulling out the frequencies of your fundamental and/or doing your best to tune the kick to your chosen scale, works wonders. I find the higher click is the most important...
