Re: Releasing for free versus for money
I wouldn't bother charging money if you're a small independent nobody. You won't make any real money (or even nice extra income) anyway, so why bother? Just give your music for free until you have a large following, then labels start (hopefully) knocking on your door and people start throwing money ...

Re: The 4 minute curse!
If you start hating the loop, the loop probably wasn't that great to begin with. There's tons of classic techno out there that's basically just a single loop that goes on for 6 minutes with a few mutes and filter cutoff modulation (Groove La Chord for example). My personal goal is to be able to make...

Re: Æon - Complex
The kick sounded very nice on my headphones, huge without being overpowering.
The track maybe run out of steam at around 3 minutes, I'd introduce something new and really exciting at that point.

Re: stereo speakers
My suggestion for cheap hifi is the same as always: Don't bother with new, 2nd hand hifi stores are full of AMAZING amps and speakers for next to nothing.
Can't really recommend specific speaker brands though, it's such a personal choice.

Re: Studio equipment always on or not?
I asked my teacher and he did say that turning electronic devices on and off constantly does lessen their life span. He didn't have a link to prove it though, so it could be just his personal opinion and not a scientific fact. He did have a few examples of things he's witnessed that speak for it, bu...

Re: Shed Interview: 'No hardware anymore'
A bit surprised, as I always thought he had a hardware sound to him.
I wonder what software he uses, and how? Not that I want to copycat him, or even use software for making music myself, just a general interest.

Re: Studio equipment always on or not?
Meanwhile, if you want to experiment: Get two units of the same gear. Keep the other piece of gear on for x hours, while you turn on and off the power with the other for x hours. See which breaks first. Hahaha, wait are you serious?? Thats quite a lot of effort to go to to break equipment! It could...

Re: Studio equipment always on or not?
Constantly turning on and off gear will shorten their life span, so you have to replace the gear sooner. Really?? Where did you hear this? Someone already explained the light bulb phenomenom; they almost always break when they're turned on, not in the middle of using them. I'm a bit embarrased I ca...
