Track Naming?

 I can't be the only one who gets into this but here's an example of working on a track and saving it with a generic name and then getting lost as to which version you like best. deep dub 1 deep dub 1.b deep dub 2 deep dub 3 deep dub 3.b deep dub 3.c deep dub 4 deep dub final version deep dub f...

Re: TR-8

Demo it, that's always the best thing you can do. If you like how it sounds and the workflow and could see how it would work for you, that's all that matters. Sounded great to me in the store, I couldn't buy one though because I always end up sampling my sounds to add processing and it kinda defeats...

Re: drum programming and swing

In Ableton, just quantize to a percentage of 16 triplets / 16t. IE: Say you just programmed in some drums with the grid resolution at 16ths, select all and quantize options, then choose 16t, then a percentage of that. The higher the percentage, the heavier the swing. I always use this method myself...

Re: How to create this beautiful warm nice Lawrence synth pa

Hi AK - half a year later lol. I am also looking to find pad sounds like this and I find it very hard. Trying to figure out what kind of synth is being used and go from there. Would buying a Boutique JP-08 or JU-06 make sense? It's co's it was getting quieter here so I stopped looking in as much. L...

Re: How to get that classic sound.

[EDIT] Just realised hydrogen posted youtube links above, didn't see those initially. NO worries bro, my post was definitely biased against using the actual dx7 :)... Have you tried oli larkins virtual CZ synth? it is pretty amazing. http://www.olilarkin.co.uk/index.php?p=virtualcz Yes I have it an...

Re: How to get that classic sound.

Yes it's Fm synthesis but you don't need a DX7 to make that sound, you could also do it with Phase Distortion PD synthesis - like the CZ series but in software, something like Fm8 or if you have Ableton, Operator can make it easy too. Any FM capable synth basically, also NI Massive and possible othe...

Re: drum programming and swing

Yeah, shifting certain notes after can make a difference with some things but I consider swing/shuffle more of a uniform thing, than manually moving stuff. I always get a bit lost with it personally but for when kick and bass hit the same note, a slight nudge can be all it needs to get both working....

Re: vst questions

The kick is a standard TR 909, there's some Lo Pass filtering on it which is why the transient doesn't have too much hi freq content. The bassline sounds like low filtered saw waves to me but I'm a bit high and drunk right now so, I dunno. There's lots of ways to separate kick n bass
