there is a monitor button at the bottom of the channel strip, it has a headphone on it and lights up blue. once you press it there is a volume control next to your main volume slider. you will have to have a soundcard with multiple outs if you want to hear it separate from your main mix, other wise ...

The looper works by tapping a tempo, then using the dial to adjust the bpm to match whatever else is playing. The sync will take an audio signal and analyze it and create a bpm from the sample. The knob on the looper allows you to adjust the bpm of the loop, it send no bpm info anywhere, and there are no midi connections.
