But to answer your question, there is no better place to start than Reason. It's a great platform to learn all sorts of aspects of production. Agreed... What I found it hard to arrange with it is up to me, and at the end everything is in perception and preference - try everything you can and choose...

At least it isn't for me... And whole Reason idea drags me into looping - you know - Redrum patterns, Matrix - and what's the worst I can't resist it... Plus, that mixer sux bigtime...

It's nice to play with, work thru some ideas, but for arranging whole non-loop-based tracks pain in the ass... It's also limited by only it's instruments and effects... So, Cubase rewired with Reason is made-match for me...
