the usual reason is because you can only fit 12 minutes or so on a side of vinyl before the sound quality starts to suffer. this means most CDs would have to be at least 3LPs for it to sound good. most labels and distributors cannot afford to press (and ship) such a heavy package. and also most DJ's...
